Biography of Mariya Sharapova
Maria Sharapova (born April 19, 1987, Nyagan) is a legendary Russian tennis player, former world number one, and career Grand Slam winner (Wimbledon 2004, US Open 2006, Australian Open 2008, Roland Garros 2012 and 2014). In 2025, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Her parents moved from the Chernobyl zone, and at the age of 7, Maria and her father emigrated to the United States with $700 in their pockets. She trained at the Bollettieri Academy and made her professional debut at the age of 14. During her career, she won 36 WTA titles, earned over $38 million in prize money, and hundreds of millions from sponsors (for many years, she was the highest-paid female athlete in the world).
