Biography of Mikaela Shiffrin

Mikaela Shiffrin (born March 13, 1995, Vail, Colorado) is an American alpine skier who is considered by many to be the greatest in history, with a record number of World Cup stage victories—108 as of February 2026 (surpassing Ingemar Stenmark's record of 86 victories).
She grew up in Vail, where her parents (both former racers) instilled in her a love of skiing. She trained at the Burke Mountain Academy. She made her World Cup debut at the age of 16 and won her first slalom victory in 2013. Key achievements: two Olympic gold medals (slalom 2014, team competition 2018), one silver (2022), five overall World Cup titles, nine slalom titles (a record), and eight World Championship gold medals (15 medals in total — a record in the modern era).
In the 2025–26 season, she dominated the slalom, but faced difficulties at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics. In the women's giant slalom on February 15, 2026, she finished 11th, 0.92 seconds behind champion Federica Brignone (Italy) and 0.30 seconds off the podium (silver was shared by Sara Hector and Tea Lujza Stiersund) . Shiffrin noted that the result was “great practice for strong and flexible thinking” after a serious abdominal injury (an accident in Killington in November 2024 — a penetrating wound, muscle injury, surgery, and post-traumatic stress disorder). She remains optimistic ahead of the final event — the slalom.
She is active on Instagram (@mikaelashiffrin), where she shares her training routines, episodes of her podcast “What's the Point” (exploring life beyond skiing), and advocates for mental health and animal welfare. She is unmarried, has no children, and lives in Colorado.
Shiffrin embodies resilience, technical mastery, and grace—an alpine skier who has rewritten women's alpine skiing, inspiring millions with her consistency, resilience, and off-piste activities.
