Biography of Alisha Nyuman (Alysha Newman)
Alysha Newman (born 29 June 1994, London, Ontario) is a Canadian pole vaulter, bronze medallist at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, champion of the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Canadian record holder (4.85 m).
She had been involved in gymnastics since childhood, but a serious back injury in her teens forced her to end her career. On her mother's advice, she switched to athletics, where she quickly revealed her talent for pole vaulting. At the age of 15–16, she was already setting records, representing Canada at international tournaments, and studying at the universities of Miami and Eastern Michigan.
