Biography of Kate Beckinsale
Kate Beckinsale is a British actress who was born in London in 1973. She grew up in an artistic family: her parents, Richard Beckinsale and Judy Law, were also actors. Sadly, Kate’s father died when she was just five years old, which was a defining moment in her life. She was educated at Oxford, where she studied French and Russian literature, but soon decided to devote herself entirely to acting.
Kate began her career with minor roles, but her first notable success came after appearing in the 1993 film adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy *Much Ado About Nothing*. She achieved real popularity with the 2001 film *Pearl Harbour*, in which she played one of the leading roles. Beckinsale is particularly well known for her portrayal of the vampire Selene in the *Underworld* film series, which earned her the status of an icon of the action and fantasy genres.
