Biography of Shakira
Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. She showed remarkable talent from childhood: she was writing songs and dancing by the age of four. She released her first album at 13, and her real breakthrough came in 2001 with the album Laundry Service. The hit "Whenever, Wherever" exploded onto the global charts and made Shakira a global star.
Her style is an explosive mix of Latin, rock, pop, and Eastern influences. Her signature belly dancing, powerful vocals with a distinctive rasp, and heartfelt lyrics quickly captivated millions. Shakira won two Grammy Awards, sold over 80 million records, and made history as one of Latin America's most successful female artists.
Besides music, she is actively involved in charity work. Through the Pies Descalzos foundation, she helps children from impoverished regions receive education. Shakira has also been a judge on The Voice and acted in films.
Despite significant personal struggles (her split from Gerard Piqué in 2022), the singer continues to create. In 2024–2025, she released new, energetic tracks and returned to major festivals with fiery performances.
Shakira remains a symbol of strength, femininity, and a cultural bridge between Latin America and the rest of the world. Her music energizes, inspires, and moves even the most reserved listeners.
